Chapter Eleven

They both crashed pretty early that first night, maybe lulled by the sense of security one gets when they’re lost in the anonymity of three hundred other passengers on a tiny floating island, or maybe just succumbing to the sheer exhaustion of having tried to talk about feelings.

Whatever the actual cause, Ethan dozed off without too much effort, listening to Patrick breathe next to him in the bed and he woke up the next morning feeling wide awake for the first time in ages.

He rolled over to find the werewolf sharing his bed already awake, pale grey-blue eyes meeting his gaze. Ethan smirked under Patrick’s assessing gaze.

“Morning.”

“You slept,” Patrick said.

“Yeah. It was good.”

“Yeah?”

Ethan stretched out, enjoying the popping sensation as his joints stretched back into place. He nodded.

“I want…” the wolf’s eyes flicked over Ethan’s face even as color rose in his cheeks. “I want to make you feel good,” Patrick said in a rush.

Warmth suffused the center of Ethan’s chest without any input from his brain. He could smell the other man—something woodsy with notes of worn leather, like the interior in his precious Camaro—and feel all of the warmth he put off soaked into the sheets that covered them both. Light poured through the curtains over their picture window. The suite glowed. It made Ethan want to stay where he was, just drowse for another hour before reality decided to crash back into him.

He caught himself enjoying the flush lining Patrick’s skin.

“I’m serious.” Patrick rolled onto his side, head on the opposite pillow and his brow furrowing.

“Did you have something specific in mind?” Ethan asked with a slow smile. There was a certain eagerness about his—fuck, his wolf—and it was kind of hot. Not that Patrick Clanahan needed much of a helping hand in the looks department. He was tanned and muscular, rougher around the edges than he’d been back in Seattle in his cotton button-downs and his slick badge. His hair stuck up in fluffy crests where he’d slept on it funny and Ethan found it stupidly charming.

“It’s just that you’ve—you know? You’ve got all this…”

Ethan rolled his eyes and grabbed Patrick’s hip. “You trying to call me an expert fucker again?”

“It’s true.”

“Yeah, okay, so it’s true. What’s your point?”

“I’m not!”

Ethan grabbed the wolf before he tried to squirm away in embarrassment or something equally idiotic. He rubbed his fingers into firm skin and nudged his mouth into Patrick’s until the wolf sighed and kissed him back. They exchanged languid kisses for a couple minutes and would you look at that, Ethan Ellison: virgin tamer.

He smirked and curled one of his hands into Patrick’s hair to better control the angle they fit together. His cock stirred with a lazy interest, a slow burn that simmered in his gut the longer their lips slid against one another, as Patrick shook things up with the introduction of a hesitant tongue.

“That’s it,” he murmured into the wolf’s skin.

Strong hands came up around his body and grasped at his back, pulling him bodily across the bed until they were pressed together from chest to thigh.
